Frequently Asked Questions

Does getting adjusted hurt?

Chiropractic Adjustments performed by a highly trained Chiropractor do not hurt. If you are already experiencing pain it is common to feel some discomfort with certain movements but the good news is that there are a wide variety of Chiropractic techniques to ensure that your body can be adjusted without pain. At Unlock Health we strive to minimise any discomfort you feel due to your injury and prepare you with exactly what to expect as your body heals over time.

What is the clicking or cracking sound?

The click you hear is not the bone itself. The sound is created when equal pressure in the body is restored, just like when a face-down cup is lifted off a wet surface. This promotes the body’s healing process to begin and restores the function of nerves in the area. There are even lots of Chiropractic techniques that have little to no cracking at all.

Are adjustments safe?

Chiropractic Adjustments are incredibly safe especially in comparison to traditional medical management. Chiropractors are one of the safest healthcare professions that exist today. However, with every health service from massage to surgery, there are always risks associated. Unlock Health ensures we minimise the risk as much as possible through a detailed health history, examination, and further testing to formulate the most accurate diagnosis possible. No two people are the same, we utilise a range of specific gentle chiropractic techniques tailored to each individual and discuss any possible risks with you prior to commencing care. We utilise state of the art equipment to ensure we deliver safe and effective chiropractic care for the whole community

Will I get a Massage with my Adjustment?

At Unlock Health massage is not performed prior to a Chiropractic Adjustment. Massage will interfere with the spinal analysis performed by your chiropractor to identify specific areas within the body that require correction. In order to deliver a high quality chiropractic adjustment an amount of tension within muscles and ligaments is also required to create the desired effect. Massage is a great addition to chiropractic care, just not directly prior to your chiropractic
adjustment.

Once you start chiropractic care, do you have to keep going back?

Healing is a process and will not happen overnight. Many factors will contribute to how long your body will take to heal and repair including age, diet, exercise, stress, posture, commitment and occupation.
Recommendations around your chiropractic care are based on two key things. Your goals and our findings. The physical findings and your diagnosis is not something that you may have any control over, but your goals will grow and develop over time. It is very important to us that we reassess your goals and findings at consistent intervals as this will change your health recommendations moving forward. At Unlock Health we strive to provide you with support and strategies to continually improve your health in the long term.
